Island Park Water hearing set for Sept. 9
The Idaho Public Utilities Commission will conduct a public hearing in Island Park on Tuesday, Sept. 9, regarding an application by Island Park Water Company to increase customer rates from $125 per year to $280 per year, a 124 percent increase.
The regulated water utility serves about 334 customers on seven separate water systems within five subdivisions in Fremont County.
During the hearing, which begins at 7 p.m. at Ponds Lodge, 3570 N. Highway 20, customers will be able to testify before the commissioners regarding the company’s proposal. There is no presentation from the commission or staff. The hearing is strictly for the purpose of hearing from customers.
Island Park Water filed the application for the increase on March 26. The company contends that an increase is necessary to meet increase operating expenses, including the higher cost of electricity, lab fees for testing water, labor and materials for repairs and maintenance to the pumps and water lines. Rates have not been adjusted since the company’s last rate case in 1992.
Customers who choose not to testify at the hearing can submit written comments. Comments are accepted via e-mail by accessing the commission’s homepage at
http://www.puc.idaho.gov/www.puc.idaho.gov and clicking on "Comments & Questions." Fill in the case number (ISL-W-08-01) and enter your comments. Comments can also be mailed to P.O. Box 83720, Boise, ID 83720-0074 or faxed to (208) 334-3762.
