PUC staff to conduct workshop in Island Park
Staff from the Idaho Public Utilities Commission wil conduct a workshop in Island Park
on June 10 regarding an application by Island Park Water Company to increase customer
rates from $125 per year to $280 per year, a 124 percent increase.
The regulated water utility serves about 310 households on seven separate water systems
in Fremont County.
The purpose of the workshop is to allow customers to hear a presentation from the
commission staff on the company's application. Customers wil then be able to ask
questions of commission staff.
Island Park Water fied the application for the increase on March 26. With the filing, the
commission's staff of engineers, auditors and attorneys begins an investigation that can
take up to six months before a decision is made. In addition to workshops, there wil also
be a comment period during which customers can submit wrtten comments and there
may also be public hearngs. Dates for those events wil be anounced later.
Island Park contends that an increase is necessary to meet increase operating expenses,
including the higher cost of electrcity, lab fees for testing water, labor and materials for
repairs and maintenance to the pumps and water lines. Rates have not been. adjusted since
the company's last rate case in 1992.
The workshop is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on June 10 at Ponds Lodge, 3570 N.
Highway 20 in Island Park.
