Ths let is wrtt in respons to a letter from the Island Park Water Company, date
Marh 25, 2008. Ths letter was a customer notice of a planed increase of our water
rates. The letr was not signed so no one from that offce taes responsibility for
wrtig it.
We disaee with the 224% increas for sever reasons:
1. The poor manement of the Island Park Water Company results in poor
cusomer sece, including a lack of any contact tht will respnd to questions,
complaits or major concer. Calls ar either never reed or cusomers get
the ru-around when tring to get anwers when water is tued ore with no
notice, and no one ca answer why it has been tued off in the :f place. The
fact tht no one would sign the letter we received is indicative of the lack of
reliable conta in ths company.
2. Ther is a ciruit breaker tht seres many customer where we ar, and when
someone wants to, they flp the breaker and wate stops flowig. The lock on the
fu box is gone, and anyone ca trp the water supply.
3. May ties, peple have hooked up to the water line for a new servce without
pession. Severa month have gone by before the Water Company knew they
ha a new cusomer to bilL. It maes you wonder how many ar hooked up and
never get biled.
4. We have not reeived any inormation as to who is responsible for water hook ups
and whn ths is done, no one knows where the hook ups are occurg, and ther
is no notice at the ciruit box.
5. We have 2 ~ acres with two water hook ups. The one hook up in the back is not
in reguar us. It is there for emergencies, such as fi fighting for ourelves or
our neighbors.
6. With two hook ups, our anual fee aftr ths increas would jump from $250 to
$560. Ths is outreous. With no increae since 1992, and now you give a yell
for help. Ths tey points to mis-management!
If there is rely such a nee for aditiona fuds for day-to-day expenditus and
increaed cost, why not give us a one-tie assessment, and increase .the yearly fees in a

reasonable pentage, such as the 3.5% incree, such as the one we reeived on our
Social Securty checks.
There is a nee for more acive PUC field conta.
Chaes nee to be made at The Wate Company. For example, they should designte
the peple responsible for water hook ups and to interface with contractors who perform
the work. They should also develop a method to notifY cusmers, when there is going to
be an extde br in service.
The Water Company should have bett control of who connects to the system, and when
people ar connecte to the water syst. Ths way proper biling would tae place and
the re of us would not be payig for those who have rogue contrtors hook them up
without notice.
Incrs in our rates may be neeed but certy not the pentages tht ar being
suggested However, with the por management of fuds in the past, how can we be
cert tht any fuds wi be maned propely and the requied activities will tae
plac.
We would lie to reeive a copy of the application and any other inormtion perent to
the ra increes in Island Park.

Please describe your question or comment briefly:
I currently own property in the Valley View subdivision with water service provided by the
Island Park Water Company. The proposal to increase the annual water fee from $125 to $288
is way to steep for the service we receive. I would be in favor of a more modest increase of
$58-$75 provided that the service improves significantly. I currently have to maintain a
booster pump in order to have enough pressure to shower. No where in the letter did I see a
statement about improving water service. If you want my vote for a cost increase, the system
needs to be improved to provide adequate pressure to the participants.
