I have received notice of a proposed 224% rate increase. Scuh a large increase is foolish
when the goverment and we people are trying to control runaway inflation. There are users
that are watering lawns for which the system was not set up for. Please do what you can to
reality to this request.
Our property taxes have more than doubled in the last few years. This makes owning a cabin
on a fixed retirement income di ficul t. If the esculations keeps up, only people from
California will be able to enjoy Island Park.

Dear Commissioners
In regard to the application filed by the Island Park Water Company to the IPUC proposing
approval of a 224% rate increase for residential service, we appeal to the Commission to
reject the request for the following reasons:
*Most of the residents in the area served by the Island Park Water Company are in residence
only part time. Our own time spent is less than 45 days of the year, as are nearly all the
other residents on Kickapoo Lane. There are two full-time residents on our well and we feel
it's not fair for part-time families to pay the same price for water that the full-time
families pay.
*We propose that in order to make the water fee more equitable, that water meters be
installed or users be required to declare and prove their part-time or full-time residency.
*Over the years we i ve paid the annual water fee, but have seen little action as far as
maintenance, upgrading, etc., to the well on Kickapoo Lane. That matter and where all the
moneys have gone was brought before the meeting last year with IPUC representatives, David
Benton, and interested residents who are served by the IP Water Company. Mr. Benton's only
answer was a smug expression.
*A few years ago, the old water line was dug up and replaced at a deeper level by some of the
residents on Kickapoo Lane, at our own expense. We have no assurance that the proposed 224%
rate increase will be used to improve the water system!
*Mr. Benton has been approached but has declined the request by Kickapoo Lane residents to
either allow us to purchase the well or have it turned over to us, since he has declared that
he wants out of the business of owning the water company. We would not want to purchase the
entire system--just the well on Kickapoo Lane. Possibly other neighborhoods served by the
company would be willing to purchase the wells their areas are served by.
We hope you will give careful consideration to our thoughts and opinions regarding the
proposed rate increase for users of Island Park Water Company.
