Subject: Concerns for Island Park Water
Gentlemen
I oppose any upgrade of the water system or rate increase. The reasons would be only for
the benefit of permanent residents, contractors, house rental businesses, local businesses, and
developers. Eighty percent of temporary or seasonal residents would receive very little benefits
of a system upgrade and it would only cost them more for their temporary stay in Island Park.
There needs to be Special Service District established for the impacted Island area where
revenue can be collected for these needed projects. All the people, businesses, state ofIdaho, and
county commissions need to pay their fair share of the financial burden which recreational areas
need. The Island Park area is too underdeveloped in providing services for recreation and is
impacted all through the winter and summer mouths. Normal and responsible governments
establish Special Service Districts to take care of these problems in most states. They don t ask
only the home owners to bear the total costs for the recreational areas in which revenue is
generated.
The county commissioners for the area are incompetent in their duties to govern this area.
They have created a situation in Island Park where developers, rental businesses, contractors, and
local businesses have impacted the area and existing facilities beyond their capacity. The
developers have bribed the commissioners and established sub-divisions, filling their pockets
with money, providing tax money to the county, then leaving town and the problems behind.
The meetings which you are suggesting are always held but the results are always the same.
Temporary residents don t have any say for they are not residents who can vote.
The state has been contacted many times about these problems but the answers are always
the same
, "
we can do nothing in the way of support for residents of Island Park and it is out of
our jurisdiction and control." The state ofIdaho doesn t provide one service to the public along
the highways in and out of Island Park. They leave it up to the local property owners to offer
services to the general public that visit this recreation area. They won t even get involved with a
building code that is out of control because of greed found in the Island Park area.
