Idaho PUC board Members
I am writing to give comment on Mike Groth's (Country Club Hills) request for an increase in
fees for their water service. My concerns are as follows, 1. Mr. Groth's proposal asks for a
base rate increase from the current rate of $17 for the first 30,000 gallons to $25 for the
first 15,000 gallons or$8.
2.He proposes that the use from 15,000 gallons to 25,000 gallons be assessed at the rate of
$.60 per thousand gallons or $6.
3.He proposes that the next 5,000 gallons of use be assessed at the rate of $.70 per
thousand gallons or $3.50.
The cost for the same 30,000 gallon base, under the proposed increase would be $34.50 or a
103% increase. I'm not aware of any improvements to the water system or the service that
would justify such an increase. How would you justify a 103% increase in your wages to your
employer? It is indefensible!
If Mr. Groth were given the base price increase requested from the current $17 for the first
30,000 gallons to $25 for the same 30,000 gallons it would amount to an increase of 47%. If
Country Club Hills Utilities was making ends meet last year, how is an increase of 47% in one
jump justified? The only business that takes those kinds of increases is the oil industry; I
hope their example doesn't become the standard. Most of us would have to have some very good
reasons to approach an employer about a wage increase of 47%.
If you are on a fixed income as most of us social security beneficiaries are, any single
budget item which increases 47% gives us cause for concern. If a trip to Boise to appear
personally would help, I would be willing to come and meet with you.
