ADVICE NO. 05-05. On June 20, 2005 , Verizon filed a tariff advice to grandfather x.25 Packet Switching Service. The Company claims the vendors of the equipment required to support this service have discontinued manufacturing the equipment, making it difficult to continue to support the service. The Company indicated there were currently four Idaho customers of this service. In response to Staff questions, the Company indicated this product is primarily used to support Point of Sale (POS) data collection systems and that there are numerous alternatives available to meet this need, including frame relay, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) service. The Company indicated most new POS installations use DSL or frame relay services. These products are available in a similar price range. As the existing customers will continue to receive service and the alternatives are similar in price, there is no fiscal impact expected to the changes. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the Commission approve this Advice. COMMISSION DECISION Does the Commission wish to approve Verizon Tariff Advice No. OS-OS? i:udmemosNerizon 05 05 ta dm DECISION MEMORANDUM JUNE 30, 2005
