RE: Nitrate update - EPA maximum containation level (MCL) is 10 mglL
I notified you earlier that the nitrate levels in the water have been edging upward over the
last couple of years and last month spiked up to 12 mgI. Two subsequent samples were 10.7
& 10.9. I will tu in another sample in March.
I met with the DEQ and they are directing me to look for a longer term remedy to keep
the levels below the 10 MCL. Basically, the options are to hook into another system or drll
a deeper well or treat with ion exchange (very expensive). I am looking for the most feasible
approach to the situation.
In any case, I will have to go to the PUC for a significant rate raise. The rates here really
have been prett low but wil need to rise. The aging infrastructure of the system is an ongoing
concern as well.
