Bitterroot Water seeks rate increase
Boise - A Kootenai County water company has applied to the Idaho Public Utilities Commission
for an increase in its metered base rates for water from $20 per month to $45.
Bitterroot Water Company, which serves 116 households in the Hayden Lake area, said the
increase is needed to offset increasing costs associated with the operation, maintenance and
capital improvements to its water system.
The company is not proposing an increase to its commodity charge of75 cents for every 1 000
gallons consumed in excess of 15 000 gallons per month.
Bitterroot contends that in the last 12 months the water system has been upgraded to maintain
compliance with increasingly tougher government standards for water quality.
Commission staff anticipates conducting a public workshop for customers and will soon
recommend further public comment procedure based on its investigation and assessment of the
company s filing.
The company s application is available on the commission s Website at www.puc.idaho.gov
