SUBJECT:,NORTH IDAHO MARITIME'S CONTRACT WITH STIMSON LUMBER
FOR THE TRANSPORTATION OF LOG
North Idaho Maritime is a common carrier engaged in the transportation of logs for
compensation upon the waters of this State. Idaho Code ~ 61-113(2). North Idaho recently
entered into an agreement with Stimson Lumber Company for the transportation of logs by
vessel. Idaho Code ~ 61-126. The contract covers vessel services for a period of three years and
includes a cancellation provision on 90-day written notice by either party.
Given the voluntary nature of the Agreement between North Idaho Maritime and
Stimson, the Staff believes that the rates and terms contained in the agreement are just and
reasonable. Consequently, the Staff recommends that the Commission approve the agreement
effective March 1 2005.
