Water utility seeks to serve Schweitzer ski resort
BOISE (April 14, 2014) – The Idaho Public Utilities Commission is taking comment through May
15 on an application by Acme Water Works, Inc., for a certificate to operate as a water utility in
Bonner County.
Acme proposes to serve 107 proposed lots within the Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort, 15 miles
northwest of Sandpoint. There are currently 20 residential customers and six lots connected to
the system but with no service as of yet. The system consists of two wells, a 200,000-gallon
storage reservoir, distribution mains and fire hydrants.
The owners, Joel and Leslie Wahlin of Sandpoint, are also proposing to institute a new hook-up
fee to finance new construction. The system operator is Bob Hansen of Sandpoint.
Acme states there is no other water system near the requested service areas with the capacity
to economically serve the area.
