RE: IN THE MATTER OF ALGOMA WATER SYSTEMS’ APPLICATION TO
INCREASE ITS RATES AND CHARGES FOR WATER SERVICE IN
THE STATE OF IDAHO; CASE NO. AWS-W-23-01.

On March 7, 2023, Algoma Water System dba Algoma Water (“Company” or “Algoma”)
applied to the Idaho Public Utilities Commission (“Commission”) to increase its rates for its
residential and commercial customers. The Company did not request an effective date in its
Application. In a later filing, the Company requested a June 1, 2023, effective date. This was
suspended for 30 days plus five months per Order No. 35766.
On November 29, 2023, the Commission issued Order No. 36012 establishing a monthly
flat rate of $54.00 to residential customers and $89.00 to commercial customers which should
generate an annual revenue requirement of $19,596 based on a rate base of $62,973.76 and a return
on equity of 11 percent. The Commission directed the Company to submit a conforming tariff in
compliance with the rates and charges within 15 days of the issuing order.
On December 4, 2023, the Company submitted its tariff reflecting the rates approved in
Order No. 36012. Staff reviewed the Company’s tariff and discovered unintentional discrepancies
in the wording. Staff worked with the Company to revise the tariff language. On December 22,
2023, the Company submitted its revised tariff reflecting the rates approved in Order No. 36012.
Staff reviewed the Company’s revised tariff and confirmed they conform to Order No. 36012.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the Commission approve the revised tariff submitted by the Company
on December 22, 2023, with an effective date of December 1, 2023, consistent with Order No.
36012.
