On August 5, 2004, the Commission received an Application from Conley Ward at Givens Pursley LLP on behalf of Inland Telephone Company. The purpose of this filing is to replace directory assistance service with 411 service and to introduce 411 connect service in its IPUC Tariff No. 3. Inland asked for an effective date of August 16 2004. Directory assistance through 411 will provide the calling party with access to national and local telephone numbers or a reply that the requested name or number is not available. Inland proposes $0.95 per call, with one free call allowed per month and an exemption for handicapped customers. Inland also proposes to provide 411 connect service at the customer s request and will carry the call to a long distance number for $0.25 per minute. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Staff has reviewed Inland's Application and finds that these optional services are priced above Inland's costs and at rates similar to those charged by other companies for similar services. Staff believes the revenue impact of this filing will be de minimus and recommends approval of 411 and 411 connect services. COMMISSION DECISION Does the Commission wish to approve Inland Telephone s Application to provide 411 and 411 connect services? i:udmemos/inl 411 memo Doug Cooley DECISION MEMORANDUM AUGUST 26, 2004
