Dallas Cc: Mende, Jim Subj ect: RE: Proposed abandonment of a portion of the UP Dry Valley line It appears this is a wildlife neutral action. No new track. No lesstrack. I f the abandonment results in less track and the track is removed with veg rehab and no water quality issue swell. One-quarter mile, and this particular one quarter mile, is of no special significance to wildlife of fish. -----Original Message----- From: Burkhalter, W. The rail line in question is the Dry Valley subdivision line that currently serves a phosphate mine. The PUC's understanding is that UP wants to abandon about a quarter of a mile of track. Once it receives permission from the US SurfaceTransportation Bd (STB) to abandon the line, UP will sell the track tothe mine. UP will continue to provide rail service to the mine. There is a poor quality map showing the location of the subj ect rail line attached to UP's letter. Please send me a copy of any correspondence your agency might send toUP.
