It appears this is a wildlife neutral action. No new track. No lesstrack. I f the abandonment results in less track and the track is
removed with veg rehab and no water quality issue swell. One-quarter
mile, and this particular one quarter mile, is of no special
significance to wildlife of fish.

I believe this may be in your bailiwick. Any Department concerns with
the proposed abandonment?

Subj ect: Proposed abandonment of a portion of the UP Dry Valley line
As indicated in the attached scoping letter, Union Pacific Railroad is
preparing the background materials to support its abandonment of a short
piece of rail line in Caribou County. The rail line in question is the
Dry Valley subdivision line that currently serves a phosphate mine. The
PUC's understanding is that UP wants to abandon about a quarter of a
mile of track. Once it receives permission from the US SurfaceTransportation Bd (STB) to abandon the line, UP will sell the track tothe mine. UP will continue to provide rail service to the mine. There
is a poor quality map showing the location of the subj ect rail line
attached to UP's letter.
