Commission will hold telephonic public hearing March 10 on proposed abandonment of
rail line
BOISE (March 5, 2020) – The Idaho Public Utilities Commission is hosting a telephonic
hearing on Tuesday, March 10, to accept public comments on the abandonment of a section of
rail line owned by Eastern Idaho Railroad.
Eastern Idaho Railroad is proposing to abandon a 0.76-mile section of rail located in Idaho Falls.
The section runs from Milepost 184.14 (immediately southeast of the grade crossing with
Yellowstone Highway) to Milepost 184.90 (north of the grade crossing with W. Broadway
Street).
The telephonic hearing will help the Idaho Public Utilities Commission determine if the
abandonment would adversely affect the area being served, impair the access of Idaho shippers
to vital goods and markets and whether the rail line has the potential for profitability.
Those interested in participating in the telephonic hearing can do so by calling 1-800-920-7487,
and entering the passcode 6674832#. The hearing starts at 2:00 p.m. and concludes after those
interested in calling have done so.
Information on the proposed abandonment can be found at:
