Dear Tom and Joe,

Yesterday, June 14, 2000, Don asked that I call and get some quotes from various scrap dealers in the surrounding areas for scrap rail and OTM. The following is the information I gathered from these companies.

A&K Railroad Materials, Salt Lake City, UT, 1-800-453-8812, spoke to Mark

He estimated about $100 a ton for scrap and OTM, depending on the market at the time. It also depends on what type of rail section it is. They do accept shipped rail cars.

David Joseph Company, Portland, OR, 503-283-8755

They only accept the heavy rail 90# and over but estimated that at $80-$85 net ton delivered, also depending on the market at the time. They do accept shipped rail cars.

Metro Metals, Portland, OR, 1-800-610-5680, spoke to Ron Evans

He estimated it at $40 a ton from scrap rail and $55-$60 a ton for the OTM.

Pacific Steel, Spokane, WA, 509-535-1673, spoke to Chink

He estimated for heavy rail/long track at $40 a ton for scrap rail and $50-$55 per ton for the OTM. Depending on market at the time.

The only company in the Seattle area that does rail scrap is Schnitzer Steel, 1-800-562-9876, I called and left a message for someone to call me back but have not heard back from them at this time.
