Re: Camas Prairie Abandonment of the Grangeville Line

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Funke:

The Commission has asked me to respond to your letter received February 23, 2001, regarding the Nez Perce Tribe’s request that the abandoned railroad line be converted to a “Tourist Trail.” As you know (the Commission on behalf of the State) objected to the abandonment of this rail line. Despite our protest, the U.S. Surface Transportation Board (STB) authorized Camas Prairie RailNet to abandon the Grangeville line.

Once the STB issued its order last year, the Commission’s participation in this case is concluded. You may want to direct your trail objection to the STB. Its street address is 925 K Street, NW, Washington, DC 20423-0001. Any correspondence should reference the Camas Prairie case number, which is Docket No. 564.
