HomeMy WebLinkAboutBUS.docxSeptember 2, 1998 RE: Operating School Buses in Idaho for Non-school Purposes Dear Charter Bus Operator: The PUC has recently received several inquiries regarding the operation of school buses to transport passengers within Idaho.  To ensure compliance with state law, the following state statutes are provided for your information. “When a school bus is being operated upon a highway [in Idaho] for purposes other than the actual transportation of children either to or from school[,] all markings thereon indicating ‘school bus’ shall be covered or concealed.” “When any school bus is sold and is no longer to be used for the transportation of pupils, before it may again be used on the highways of this state it shall be painted a color other than school bus chrome [i.e., standard school bus yellow] and all school bus markings shall be obliterated.” Idaho Code § 49-1422(3) and (4). Failure to comply with the statutes set out above constitutes a violation of the Idaho Code.  If you have any questions, please contact me. Sincerely, Ron Law, Administrator Regulated Carrier Division DH/vld:L:bus cc:NIFC State Department of Land Forest Service
