REQUESTING AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF JUNE 24, 2003.
BACKGROUND
On May 23 2003 , Verizon filed Tariff Advice No. 03-05 wherein it is requesting
Commission approval to add bundled DS3 service to its Intrastate Access Tariff. The Company
explains that this offering will allow customers to purchase a 44.736 Mbps User-Network
Interface (UN I) port and access line connection to Verizon s frame relay network.
DISCUSSION
Frame relay service is a form of "fast packet" switching service for high speed networks
that require flexible bandwidth, high-performance transport and switching for connectivity
between and among widely distributed customer locations.
This service will be offered on a month-to-month basis, and under I-year, 3-year and 5-
year term payment plans. The month-to-month plan will include a non-recurring cost and a
monthly recurring cost (MRC). The term payment plans will include a MRC only.
The cost studies presented with the filing show that, based upon the Company s market
analysis, the Company will certainly be recovering its costs.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staffhas reviewed this filing and finds it to be reasonable and believes that this
discretionary service will benefit Verizon customers. Staff recommends approval.
