Intermountain Gas has requested an increase in the natural gas rate to charged to its
customers because it costs them more to purchase the gas. They state the increase is 18%
and is due to the increased cost. Their proposed increase is from $.97735 per therm to
$1.19 which is 22% not 18%. I have calculated our usage and get a 23% increase for the
year. My question is: How can theyt j usti fy such an increase when the present wholsale
price of natural gas is less than $ .90 per therm? It seems to me that they are trying to
pass along poor purchasing/contracting practices to a capi ti ve clientel. I do not believe
there can possibly be any reasonable justification for an increase above $1.00 per therm even
with poor contracting practices. I request that the IPUC reject this proposed increase and
hold Intermountain Gas to better business practices. They say' This increase will only
cover the increase in the cost of gas and will not affect the Campany' s profit.' My
response to that is · BULL! ! ' If that is the case then their operation is in serious need
of an indepth internal audit and we as consumers need the IPUC help to get them to have
better practices.

I am retired, living on a fixed income, with the prospect of a 2 to 3% increase in my income
this year. Why do the utility companies get a 15 to 18% increase. They are a business, and
thus should bear some of the cost of earning their profit, but all they have to do is ask and
they are allowed to recoup all expenses of doing business. This is OK, but they are
MONOPOLIES. Where else can I go to get gas or electric service. I do not recall either of
these utilities being denied in the last 24 years. Please consider US a bit more when making
your decisions.
