NEWS RELEASE: Commission approves settlement that will adjust rates for natural gas and
electric customers served by Avista Utilities.
BOISE (Sept. 5, 2023) – The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has approved a proposed
settlement between several parties that will change the rates Avista Utilities customers are
charged for electric and natural gas service.
The approval will allow Avista to increase base revenues collected for natural gas service by
approximately 2.7 percent beginning Sept. 1, 2023, and by approximately 0.01 percent beginning
Sept. 1, 2024. It also will allow Avista to increase base revenues collected for electric service by
approximately 8.0 percent beginning Sept. 1, 2023, and by approximately 1.4 percent beginning
Sept. 1, 2024.
The commission found that the proposed settlement will allow Avista to operate sustainably
while reducing the effects of rate increases on customers. While basic charges will increase, the
commission believes customers will likely see more levelized summer and winter bills.
Avista said it needed the rate increases to recover costs for fixed expenses and ongoing
investments in infrastructure, technology and more.
