Avista's increase would be 15.4% in 2023 and an additional 4.7% in 2024. That makes 2024's rate increase 20.1% over today's rates. That high of an increase is not warranted. The cost to replace equipment needs to be spread out over a longer period of time. Why are electrical customers paying to improve a natural gas distribution pipeline? I thought most of our electricity is hydroelectric. Is this increase to pay for expensive, unreliable alternative energy? Also, Avista's annual income has been increasing. That money should be reinvested into their infrastructure to help reduce costs. I ask the commissioners to reject these increases and ask Avista reevaluate their needs. We are already struggling with living expenses increases across-the-board. Elderly are having to chose heat or food and our local working class is slowly being pushed out by the housing market. I could see if Avista improved the quality of the product that an increase would be justified, but the product is the same and we have already had a rate increase very recently. I also understand that there are more people requiring resources but we have been promised by leadership that we wont have to foot the bill for growth, that it would pay for itsself... well, let it pay for itsself. More people means more money. That should ve more than enough. Please, no more rate increases. Our money is tapped out and many of us are already robbing peter to pay paul.
