While it would appear as though the Commissioners have gone ahead and given their 'rubber
stamp' approval to Avista' s latest rate increase, I am curious as to whether there were any
arguments or testimony on behalf of the utility's customers in opposition to this increase?
Perhaps people just don't think it's worth the time these days to contact the PUC since the
Commissioners seem to have a soft spot for utility companies . with Avista reporting a
significant increase in recent quarterly earnings compared with the prior year , it would
appear as though the company is doing quite well financially, even in the current sluggish
economy. I have no doubt the company can thank the Idaho PUC for this.
In closing, I would hope that the Commissioners would start to look past the glossy, i number
crunching' presentations that Avista' s highly compensated attorneys and senior management
provide, and start to represent their true constituents... the citizens and taxpayers of
Idaho who are continuing to be gouged by Avista' s continual rate increases I
