In reference to a notice in a recent bill, about an app filed Mar 23, 2818. Business is tough during these times, for everyone. In this small logging/lumbering town, the mill shut-downs/cutbacks have heavily affected the local economy. Homes are for sale/rent all around the area. This is caused by many moving away looking for work. Our local school dist has cut its annual budget by $935,888 this year, & is expected to cut another $888,888 next Fall, plus another 5%or more at mid-year. Others are doing the same. Has Avista looked in the mirror of budget cuts, as so many others have had too? Starting at the top with a hefty percentile cut would be something that the people understand, & could identi fy with. Their salaries company wide are something that few in this community ever receive. The working class at Avista hasn't a clue what we live like in the small towns. Instead of a fat 14.5% increase in my bill, how about they take a hard look at what others have had to . give' to make their companies & school districts survive these times. You folks, far better than us, have a voice that they hear! Send them the message: we are all in a hard depression out here, & its not the time to increase our bills like the government is doing with our taxes. I thank you for speaking out for us here at the · pinched' consumer level. Avista does a fantastic job of keeping the lights on, & so do others at their jobs, only the others have had to cut back hard to make it happen. Isn't Avista in this mess with us? They claim to be · communi ty supportive'. Let's see if they really are! Suggest to Avista they need to eat the raise & help us survive on lower paying jobs & unemployment checks. I realize that it could mean from between $18 - $28 more a month for me; however, with my health care costs ever increasing I do not have the money for this!!! In addition, the water and sewer rates were recently increased which also cut into my budget for food and prescriptions! I keep my thermostat at 65 degrees 8 months out of the year and only use air condi tioning sparingly for a couple of weeks in the summer. For additional savings, I turn off most of the' vampire appliances i, except my refrigerator, when not in use. I can't lower my thermostat anymore as it would be too cold me me even though I wear extra clothing in the house! My arthi tis and other heal th conditions cause my tolerance for the cold to be less and less as I get older! PLEASE DON'T APPROVE THIS RATE INCREASE!!! AVISTA MADE OVER $38 MILLION IN PROFITS LAST YEAR AND THEY WANT THIS APPROVAL TO PLEASE THEIR SHAREHOLDERS AND ALLOW THEIR TOP EXECUTIVES TO HAVE EVEN MORE EXORBITANT SALARY AND BONUS INCREASES!! MOST OF US IN IDAHO ARE NOT WEALTHY AND WE CAN'T AFFORD TO SPEND MORE MONEY ON OUR ENERGY USE, ESPECIALLY SINCE WE NEED TO HEAT OUR HOMES FOR MOST OF EVERY YEAR! ! ! !
