I urge you to deny them this petition. The natural gas price has been steadily dropping for several months. Furthermore, due to the economic slowdown, there seems to be little cause to expect the price to rise in the near future. In addition, unemployment is rising many families are just getting by, and the senior population on fixed incomes are being squeezed to the point of deciding whether to heat their homes or eat. Therefore, taking into consideration the reduced price of energy currently enjoyed by Avista, and the additional hardship that an unjustified rate increase would place on our Idaho families and seniors, I see no possible justification for any hike in rates at this time. Can't imagine that they would actually have the audacity to make such a request when most of us are having a hard time paying the already inflated rates they receive. Wi thout holiday lights, hot water, house heat and stove, though careful, we paid $119 in electric i services' last month. My daughter, in Boulder, CO, paid $35 including stove and apartment heat. Surely the commission will not allow this theft of our income by this company. Again, please tell us that this is only a viscious rumor. If not, how much does the CEO make? How much do the members of the board of directors make? If any of these renuerations are over $175,000 including bonuses and other extras, I assume the commission will laugh in their collective faces. The commission should be reducing rates, not allowing raises. Everything else has fallen as well as income. I think a rate of $60.00 to 70.00 increase per month is a lot. I can sit here all day and tell you why, but would like to know if there is anyone setting in the retired persons corner helping the seniors. Do not need charity just a fair shake. As a Avista utility customer I am concerned about this. We just had a $20 increase per bill right at the end of 2008, so why would they need this ar get this again. I simply cannot afford another rate increase. As it is I am a single woman who is buying a house and have to work 2 jobs 7 days a week to make ends meed. I simply cannot give money out to everyone who has their hand out, I wish that worked for me. As a matter of fact one of my jobs decreased our pay across the board by 10% (ouch!). I think that Avista has a monopoly in that they have no competitors and is simply greed. I feel that there needs to be cap put on this. Our citizens are going under fast and I think some of these companies such as avista need to tighten there belts like the rest of us ar. Please do not accept this rate increase from Avista. I am writing to everyone I can think of regarding this. Again I say, we just had a $20 dollar rate increase right at the end of 2008, where has that money gone, $20 dollars from each customer is a huge amount of money.
