Public hearing, comment deadline set regarding
Idaho Power request to sell assets to Meridian
BOISE (Jan. 18, 2018) – The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has scheduled a public
hearing on Jan. 22 to address an Idaho Power proposal to sell certain assets to the city of
Meridian.
The utility has requested Commission approval of an agreement it has reached with the city
to sell assets that serve the Meridian wastewater treatment facility for $761,693.
Idaho Code requires a public hearing to be held when a regulated utility asks the
Commission to approve the sale of assets used to supply power to the public.
The assets in this case include power poles, underground and overhead cables, concrete
pads and vaults, switches and transformers that are “beyond the point of delivery,” or the
point at which the customer’s power usage is measured, at the city’s wastewater treatment
facility.
Such assets are typically maintained by the customer, but Idaho Power has maintained the
equipment for the city of Meridian in exchange for a monthly fee.
In the process of expanding the wastewater treatment facility, Meridian officials
approached Idaho Power about purchasing the assets.
The expansion will require the installation of additional electrical distribution facilities
beyond the point of delivery, and Idaho Power’s tariff does not allow mixed ownership of
facilities past that point.
The public hearing will immediately follow the Commission’s weekly decision meeting on
Jan. 22 in the Commission’s hearing room, 472 W. Washington St. in Boise. The decision
meeting begins at 1:30 pm. The public hearing will begin no sooner than 1:45 pm.
The Commission is accepting public comments on the proposal through Jan. 25. To
