HomeMy WebLinkAbout160617_MorningViewWater.pdf Workshop is July 12 in Rigby area water rate case Case No. MNV-W-16-01, Notice of Public Workshop Contact: Gene Fadness (208) 334-0339, 890-2712 BOISE (June 17, 2016) – Staff from the Idaho Public Utilities Commission will be in Rigby on Tuesday, July 12, to conduct a public workshop regarding Morning View Water Company’s request for a rate increase. The purpose of the workshop, which begins at 7 p.m. in the Jefferson County Courthouse at 210 Courthouse Way in Rigby, is to present the company’s application, answer customer questions and receive input from customers. As the case progresses, commission staff will file comments, making its recommendations. The commission has up to six months to make a decision from the May 2 date that Morning View filed its application. The investigation includes an audit of the company’s records by the commission’s auditors. In a press release issued to its customers, the company claims it needs to increase its annual revenue by $104,452 to meet expenses from the installation of a third well and upgrades to the two other wells. The company was able to finance the improvements by a loan from the Drinking Water Treatment Facility Loan Account. If the company’s request were granted in full, residents of one-acre lots would pay $98.96 per month and half-acre lot owners would pay $81.88 per month. That is a 100 percent increase over current rates. Residents of the mobile home park would pay $48.61 per month, a 50 percent increase. Rates have not been increased for nearly 10 years, the company claims. Currently, residents pay a monthly flat fee. However, the company is asking the commission to provide assistance in devising a new rate structure that would include metered rates based on consumption rather than a flat fee. Metered systems help encourage the wise use of water because customers pay less when they use less water. The commission may also conduct a public hearing as the case progresses.
