Murray Water Works sold to homeowners’ association

BOISE (July 2, 2015) – Murray Water Works Company is seeking cancellation of the certificate
that entitles it to operate as a public utility.

The company’s application to the Idaho Public Utilities Commission states that Murray Water
Works has been purchased by the Murray Water Association, a non-profit association with
elected board members and a president.

Utilities that are publicly owned by homeowners or municipalities are not regulated by the
commission. Privately-owned, for-profit companies with assigned territories are regulated. The
Murray Water Association is a group of homeowners who have purchased the water system
from Arlin and Nancy Lish.

According to its 2014 annual report, the company had 31 residential customers and one
commercial customer in the Shoshone County community north of Wallace.

The commission is taking public comment through July 21 on the company’s request to have its
Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity cancelled.
