Rocky Mountain Power files for rate increase
BOISE, Idaho - Rocky Mountain Power today fied with the Idao Public Utilties Commssion for a
rate increase of$5.9 millon, or 4.0 percent overaL. After the Commission's review and ruing, the
new rates would likely tae effect in spring 2009. The proposed rate increase is designed to cover the
dramatically increasing cost of serving residential, commercial and irrgation customers.
"The proposed increase is needed as the result of the company's need to meet the increasing
cost for electrcity," said Richard Walje, president, Rocky Mountan Power. "As the need for
electrcity has grown, the company has made large investments in new infastrctue and facilties.
In addition, costs have increased for fuel and purchased power to serve customers."
Walje said if the company's proposal is approved, residential customers would see a 4.73
percent price increase. For the average residential home using 850 kilowatt hours per month, tht
equates to an increase of approximately $3.55 per month.
The Commission will study the company's proposal durng the coming months and must
approve the proposed changes before they can tae effect. The public wil have opportty to
comment on the proposal durng the rate-makng process. A copy of the company's application is
available for public review at the commission offces in Boise and at the company's offces in
Rexburg, Preston, Shelley and Montpelier. It is expected that a decision will be reached sometime
durg the sprig of 2009.
