I commend PacifiCorp for its massive increase in renewable energy input in its most
recent Integrated Resource Plan. However, there seem to be two glaring omissions in lightof it's claim that is will be a leader in global warming issues. First, since it is
planning to add a second 500 kV line across southern Idaho, it should plan to pick up much
of its renewable energy resource in Idaho. And second, it should be investigating
compressed air energy storage to substitute at least to some extent for its natural gas.If it wants to investigate this possibility it needs to consult with Carl Austin who can
gi ve it some idea of where good compressed air energy storage facilities can be located.
The Idaho Energy Division. has identified over 16,000 MW of possible wind sites and there
are nearly 600 MW of wind sites in advanced stages of planning with no current market. Howcan PacifiCorp completely overlook Idaho in this plan?
