PacifiCorp seeks to establish energy saving program
BOISE - PacifiCorp is seeking authority from the Idaho Public Utilities Commission to establish a deferred account in
case, at some point in the future, it seeks to recover the costs of a proposed compact fluorescent light bulb program.
PacifiCorp wants to provide each of its 44 000 Idaho residential customers with two compact fluorescent light bulbs to
familiarize customers with the energy savings that can be realized with CFL bulbs and the bulbs ' extended life. PacifiCorp
estimates that the proposed CFL program will save 5.7 million kWh annually, 50 percent of which will occur during peak load
periods.
The light bulb program will cost about $456 000, according to PacifiCorp. The utility is seeking commission authority
to establish a deferral account for possible recovery from customers of theprogram s cost plus accrued carrying costs in a future
rate case. Setting up the deferral account does not mean the company will be able to eventually recover costs from customers.
Such a determination would be made in a future rate proceeding.
The commission is seeking public comment regarding PacifiCorp s request by no later than Nov. 29.
