I do have some questions though. I bought a four-bulb four-foot fixture with electronic ballast and t8 bulbs to replace my two 75-watt Halogen ceiling fixture. I guess those Halogens put off a lot of heat because when I took the fixture down the wiring up in the box was cooked. Did I make any savings by going that route? Is there a chart that tells me? I've looked at the little chart on your Lighting Coupon Program flyer but I can t say I really understand thedifference. My wife loves the difference the fluorescent light bulbs made in our kitchen; in fact the four bulbs were so bright that we had to take out two, and it's still brighter than the one we had in there before. While in the store I talked with a sales rep and he stated that fluorescents are nicebut: Statement #1: If you re going to be in a room for less than an hour, incandescent bulbs are still better to use because the ballast uses an hour s worth of electricity when it' first fired up. Statement #2: On the old ballast type, you need to burn-in the plates for twenty-four hours to cut down on the humming and use less electricity. Statement #3: He bought some of the first CFL's that came out that were supposed to last four or five years, and they lasted six months. Are the new CFL's a better quality? Is this guy trying to make me paranoid? Is there any truth in his comments? Are you selling us this idea in hopes that they will eventually make a better CFL? I guess I'd like to know the truth so I can be better informed on how to save on electrici ty. What about the cost savings in electronic ballast versus regular ballast? ve got four two-bulb fluorescents out in my shop that have been humming for years. I paid $10.00 per fixture. Would I be better off buying the $24.00 fixture rated for thecold. Do I worry about burn-in time? I need more sunlight in the winter-are these full- spectrum fluorescents the kind to use? I'd like more information on that too if youcould. Idaho Power Customer, Jim Walmsley 266 Washington St American Falls 10 83211 (208) 226-7830 Transaction 10: 1118938. If 88,000 CFL bulbs cost $456,000 (about $5.19 per CFL) and save 7 million kWh annually (8 cents per kWh if $456,000 is divided by 5.7 million kWh), then current and future rates should never go above 8 cents per kWh. They had all kinds of CFL bulbs (sizes, colors, wattage, etc) . Transaction 10: 11151135. Referred by: http: / /www.puc. state. id. us/ scripts/polyform. dll/ipuc User Address: 164.165.237. I am not impressed wi th them wanting to buy light globes for me. These globes have been on the retail market for quite some time now and I feel that people want to buy them, they will. I have been using them for approximately one yea~ and am satisfied with them, however , I have a hard time understanding how they think that switching two light globes in a home will show anyone a significant cost savings. Also, as with anything else, because they will be buying them and distributing them to the ratepayers, the cost is going to obviously be higher than if we go out and buy them ourselves. I just bought a pack of two from Home Depot for $8.00. Looking at the figures they are using, it would cost over $10.00 to supply those same bulbs to me. I don t want to have to come back 2 or 3 years from now and have them request a rate hike because they supplied me with light globes I could have purchased for less somewhere else. It might have to go back to you to be approved "if" they ever ask to be reimbursed by the. ratepayers, but "Utah Power " has never had muchdifficulty getting what they want. By the time they got my $10+ back from me, it would end up costing much more than that. I am perfectly happy purchasing my own light globes and would like to keep it that way.Thank you, Chris Evans Transaction 10: 11181107.
