RE: Idaho Power (Case No. IPC-E-23-14)
I am writing this in response to a two-page letter received from Idaho Power regarding the above case. To say this letter is vague and offers no explanation for the need for
more money would be an understatement. Lots of words, but basically gobbledygook.
In it, I have been hit with thinly-veiled inferences that we are robbing our neighbors, which I find offensive. After doing a bit of research, I found that there is some type of
ad campaign in this country implying that people who are solar panel owners are, indeed,
engaging in some type of "robbery" of non-solar owners. That campaign was and is
paid for by 3 major power companies. Having found that out, it carries no weight with me and I will totally disregard this claim. That being said, it is obvious this is an effort
at total control of all power and all monies generated. Our solar was installed in an
effort to defray costs in our retirement and at the same time add excess power to the grid.
We felt it was a win-win situation. We later that year found out that Idaho Power
selected a date (December 20, 2019) to grant Legacy Status or "grandfather" some solar systems, and their systems' NEM compensation would not be changed for 25 years. In
the meantime, the rest of us were left wide open for "restructuring." Now who is robbing who? Idaho Power made the decision at the outset to pay credit per credit for energy generated and they should stick to that.
We the people have been hit hard lately and no one seems to be looking out for us. Hopefully, our Public Utilities Commission will look at this and decide in our favor. We
have absolutely got to work together to accomplish the desired results for everyone. The people are getting hit from every direction: Groceries, gas, living expenses, taxes, and the list goes on and on. If Idaho Power has a shortage in funds ( and they shouldn't, based on the amount of new customers in the last several years), then let them ask for it in a meaningful way using data that means something. I want to know why they need the money and what it is going to be used for. We are all aware that prices have gone up for everything. Let us know what expenses have gone up. Make it something more readable than 2 pages of nothing but rate hikes with nothing to back it up. As a consumer I have had to make cuts in my budget. Companies are going to have to do the same thing.
