We are running out of time to save our planet (which really means ourselves). I am building a
new house, super insulated, requiring very little heat which will be provided by efficient heatpumps rather than fossil fuels. We need to encourage everyone to do this asap.
I understand there is a cost to maintaining a grid, so you should allow net metering and charge
a grid connection fee.

Dear Commission Secretary PUC,
Solar is one key to a healthier future for all people, whether they live here in Idaho or half way
across the world. Idaho needs to invest in a clean energy future, as was done with hydro-electric decades ago with what was known at the time about energy production. It would be
great to have the Idaho Power solar valuation study result in how homeowners and businessescan participate in a 21st Century healthy and clean energy future. It can also be a model for
other electric providers in the Idaho (or elsewhere) on how to conduct the same study for theirservice area and become part of the movement to move away from harmful carbon based
energy production and animal and river killing hydro energy production.
Further, when disaster strikes in some part of America or North America, and Idaho rooftopsolar homes and businesses are producing abundant energy, Idaho Power and other electric
providers can come to the rescue with the available abundant clean energy to help disasterareas or regions recover. And local, clean energy benefits local and regional areas while
lessening the costs and needs of large ugly electric transit systems (grids); which when theyfail or need to be repaired or upgraded doing so affects large areas and thousands if not
millions of electric users.
Rooftop solar, whether on homes, businesses or both, translates to users in communities,counties, regions being more independent and much more capable of solving energy needs
locally with their local or state providers instead of relying on energy produced and thentransferred from hundreds or thousands of miles away.
Further that energy production was based mostly on polluting carbon based sources that was
cheap in one sense but terribly damaging and terrifically expensive to restore lives and thelocal and global economies and environments that everyone depends on. The time to study
how power can be provided, used and transmitted, and done economically is a win-winsolution for all users as well as Idaho Power and all electric providers.
It is my hope that the Idaho Public Utilities Commission promotes this and other studies like it
across Idaho, because the discussions and resulting findings will illustrate that old approachesof using fouling dirty energy producers and long-distance grid systems is no longer
economically sustainable nor healthy for Idahoans, Americans, or for the places we live, play,or are sustained by.
Customer owned energy production needs to be part of the discussion for today and the future.
The study will hopefully present how clean energy can be achieved that is economical andsustainable for local users – communities as well as to providers like Idaho Power and others.
This study can and hopefully will provide real science and economic facts about the role thatcustomers can contribute and be involved in that will contribute towards a clean energy future.
