Greetings:
We are contacting IPUC to express our dismay at Idaho Power's efforts to classify
net-meter customers as higher rate payers. This is discriminatory and singles out
people who are trying to reduce their energy consumption.Idaho is an extremely
productive state when it comes to solar energy potential.Long sunny summer days
coincide with high power demands from irrigation and air-conditioning,making a
perfect match for solar energy.IdaCorp's efforts to disincentivizehomeownersfrom
installing rooftop solar flies in the face of common sense.Local energy production
reduces the needs for high voltage transmission lines bringing power in from
hundreds of miles away, wasting energy with each mile of line.Rooftop solarinstallationsreducetheneedforIdahoPowertoburncoal,a horriblydirty fuel, both in
terms of mercury and sulphur dioxide emissions, but also in the amount of
greenhouse gasses that are emitted during combustion. We strongly urge IPUC to
deny Idaho Power's request to charge net-meter customers a higher rate per kWh.
We also hope that IPUC will encourageIdaCorp to take on a more futuristicview and
embrace more renewable energy technology that would work to reduce the roughly
50%of energy production coming from coal in their portfolio.
Sincerel
