Sun Valley ID,83353 Name of Utility Company:Idaho Power Company Comment:Dear Sirs:I have followed the arguments made by Idaho Power Company (“IPC”)in favor of building the redundant power line to serve the upper Wood River Valley to as a back up to the existing line built in 1962.The groups and people opposing this line advocate instead of the redundant line a microgrid that features solar energy, diesel generators, battery storage and possibly other sources. The opponents complain that a redundant line is too expensive, will degrade property values along Highway 75’s scenic corridor and adversely impact those parts of the valley through which it will pass.Dave Angell,IPC distribution and planning Manager very competently refuted the proposed alternatives, most of which were apparently based on test cases and extremely small applications. In fact, the cost to construct, man, maintain and to provide fresh and reliable fuel for parts of the proposed alternative are presently unknown due to the paucity of real world, long term experience with them.IPC started planning for a redundant line in 1973(44 years ago). The existing line is 55+years old.The current line is old infrastructure. The IPUC should approve the IPC’s plans for constructing the redundant line as soon as possible. We do not need another incident like the failure of the transmission lines south of the Wood River Valley on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in 2010(as I recall)to occur and cause major problems for the residents of the valley. Yours very truly,John R.Monson Unique Identifier:71.255.142.162 1
