I am writing to you today because as an Idaho citizen I have a vested interest in the future of how we continue to get
energy in this state.I understand that there are proposals that you are looking to incorporate for the coming years and it
is my hope that we continue to move away from coal power plants.This is a wise long-term solution that will ensure we
maintain the quality of life that we have come to love here.
I am in favor of having a small rise in my utility cost to assist with the demolition of the coal plants to make this
transition possible.At this point,organizations like the Snake River Alliance have given you the information to assist you
in seeing the risk to benefit portfolio of retrofitting the Bridger units.From the data gathered,it shows that the public
will save money over the long term to decommission the existing coal plants instead of tightening up pollution controls.
The emission controls for this do not address green-house gases and this is not helping to curb the amount necessary
and that will be required by the EPA.The water and air quality continue to be threatened as long as coal plants are used.
The increase in wind power with the Boardman to Hemingway line is something that I hope comes to realization.Along
with this,I hope to see Idaho Power step up and add in more solar power operations.While I am pleased that they are
offering a solar generation project,I know that solar is a real solution with long-term benefits for everyone.I am asking
you today to reconsider reversing your stance on making solar projects go from twenty year contracts to two year
contracts.We must be looking at viable solutions that make sense for the years ahead and for the next seven
generations.
