I strongly support the power purchase agreement that Idaho Power Company has entered into
with the Grandview Solar Project.The project should definitely be built.
This will be the first utility scale solar project in Idaho and I hope that it is but the
first step in a long journey.Southern Idaho could be the Saudi Arabia of solar energy,
producing vast quantities of electricity and selling it to other states,particularly the
cloudy parts of the Pacific Northwest.This will bring money back into Idaho,create Idaho
jobs,and increase property tax revenues.But first we must take the first step and build
the first plant.
The Grandview project will bring all these benefits to Idaho--up to 300 temporary
construction jobs,full time maintenance jobs,it will pay lease payments to landowners,and
will pay approximately $400,000 per year in property taxes to Elmore County.
The project is also good for the environment,producing electricity equivalent to that
consumed by 20,000 households without any emissions.
Finally,this looks like some of the cheapest power that Idaho Power can currently buy,so it
is good for the consumer.
In short,this project is good for the environment,good for the economy,good for the
consumer,and good for Idaho Power--a win win win win.I urge that it be approved.
