COMMENTS BY HONEYWELL INTERNATIONAL INC.
Dear Ms Jewel:
Honeywell appreciates the opportunity to provide comments with respect to IPC-E-l3-14.
Background
Honeywell has over 100 years of experience in providing energy management solutions. You will find
Honeywell systems in more than 150 million homes and five million buildings around the world.
Nearly 50%of our product portfolio delivers energy efficiency benefits.
In addition, two million homeowners across North America are using Honeywell thermostats, along
with load-control switches we’ve installed,to help more than 100 utilities reduce the potential for
outages and decrease the need for new power plants. With assistance from our technology and services,
utilities now have the combined ability to temporarily trim the demand for energy by 2.1 gigawatts, the
same amount of electricity it takes almost 30 small power plants to generate.
Honeywell has also completed more than 5,000 energy-efficiency improvement projects for schools,
cities, military bases and other government entities;these projects are expected to deliver more than $5
billion in guaranteed energy and operational savings.
HoneyweU
By applying our expertise in sensing and controls,we are creating energy efficient, more comfortable,
safer, more secure and productive environments for our customers. If Honeywell’s energy efficiency
technologies were immediately and comprehensively adopted,we could substantially reduce US energy
demand by 20-25%
Position
Honeywell had the opportunity to participate in the public workshops hosted by Idaho Power. The
workshops were both constructive and candid and we encourage the Commission to consider their use
in the future. We support the outcome of the workshops and the proposed settlement.
Demand response continues to be a very cost effective option for utilities across North America for
helping manage peak load.We support Idaho Power’s DR Concepts of viewing demand response on a
long term perspective while seeking additional value that it can play in their portfolio in the short term.
Additionally, continuity and widespread adoption of a program is essential in maximizing the value to
both the utility and customer.
Honeywell appreciates the opportunity to have participated in the workshops and to provide comments
to the Commission in this case.We look forward to working with Idaho Power and the Commission in
the continued dialogue around demand response and energy efficiency.
Respectfully,
c7
