Solar technology private citizens utilize for their benefit should be promoted in Idaho. Action needs to be taken in Idaho to encourage innovation in energy production with the help of the state's private citizens. I hope utility companies throughout Idaho will promote renewable sources of energy for the benefit of the state. His retirement is a pittance! Yet I remember many nights in the middle of the winters he was 'on call', and left our warm home at 1 or 2 oclock in the morning to go out BY HIMSELF and physically climb a pole in freezing snowy weather to help restore power to a customer in need. His allegence to the COMPANY was total. What happened to this company?!! From the looks of it my father and other men and women of his time handed the reins down to a generation of spoiled, stubborn, and greedy folk. I would like to know why it is that Germany in 2012 put solar pannels on the roofs of houses and virtually satified their country's need for electricity? Come on here! Let's show a little American enginuity. There is enough gruel in the pot for everybody, and if we put our minds together perhaps we can re- create that seemingly lost art of creating a mutually beneficial relationship between the company and it's customers--whom happen to be people, by the way!! The argument in favor of the application fails to take in many aspects of net metering by focusing on costs alone. Just to state two of those, over the long term, with effective expansion of net metering, fixed cost investments (power lines, etc.) will decline, resulting in a benefit to all customers of Idaho Power. And, the timing of availability of this power coincides with maximum usage of power during the year, which makes it a good fit with Idaho Power's portfolio. Idaho Power argues this is a fairness issue, but this proposal is patently unfair and shortsighted. This proposal won't encourage net metering - it will clearly discourage it. We need as much clean energy as we can produce and folks who install their own solar units should be rewarded. For Idaho Power to levy a large surcharge on solar installations is backward and regressive. PUC should order Idaho Power, as well as other utilities, to encourage solar power. The power company should be kept from charging a person who has solar, wind, or any other renewable power source more for the basic service charge than the average customer who is purchasing power from the company. Also, the power company should compensate him for power that they will be taking from him at a FAIR market rate. I would consider this price gouging: Price gouging is a pejorative term referring to a situation in which a seller prices goods or commodities much higher than is considered reasonable or fair. The quadruple of his basic service charge, is definitely UNreasonable. They are trying to set up a racketeering situation where it is financially unfeasible to set up ones own solar panels to generate power, therefore being tied to the power company without other financially reasonable options. I for one do not approve, and think that this is not the road we should be traveling down. We need to encourage being independent of the power grid, to have a more stable system. Additionally, I think renewable power resources should be developed and encouraged to help put our ecosystem back to a more natural state for our health and everything else living on this planet. For example you get loan for iO years for solar and it would cost me more to pay loan and electricity usage cost and after 10 years then the solar need maintenance cost.
