RE: Hoku Materials, Inc . Facility
Dear Mr. Keen:
On behalf of the City of Pocatello, I urge Idaho Power Company to keep Hoku Materials, Inc.
connected to the power grid and to continue working with Hoku regarding their past due
balance for electrical service. The City is the owner of the land where Hoku's Pocatello
facility is located, and as such, we have an interest in seeing Hoku succeed.
In addition, Hoku is a key player in our local economy. The company currently employs
approximately 160 people, and the shutdown of this plant and subsequent loss of jobs would be
a significant blow to our economy. At a time when the nation is just beginning to show signs
of a slow economic recovery, I would hope Idaho Power would be willing to work with Hoku in
order to preserve the value of their assets and jobs for the current workforce, as well as
the future opportunity for Pocatello.
Pocatello is excited to be the home of Hoku's polysilicon manufacturing company. We look
forward to the company beginning production soon, and I ask that Idaho Power Company work
with Hoku Materials, Inc. and our community to ensure this happens.
