Greetings esteemed public utilities commission board members: I am writing in response to the anouncement that Idaho Power is looking for another rate hike in the amount I wil need to pay as a consumer. I have very strong objections to another rate hike especially at a time of economic woe of which I am a victim. My local news caster tells me that Idaho Power says their rates are some of the lowest in the nation, this I do not dispute; however, I would also like to add that our state's family income is also lower than most states. Did we not recently have a hike that almost doubled the cost of my monthly bil? It has been a rough couple years for me after losing my job and having to go on unemployment and staring college in hopes of finding employment that I am physically able to perform. I spent the last winter heating only the smallest bedroom in my house with a small space heater and candles, while I and my four pets snuggled together for warth during the night. I am stil trying to catch up on my winter heating bil and this is with heating assistance help. From what I hear with governent cutbacks I won't be able to count on much help with heating assistance next year. My sitution is such that my savings is slowly bleeding out because my minimum cost ofliving is 350 dollars a . month more than what is coming in. When I lost my job my income dropped by approximately a third and everyting has gone up to almost double. Gas, food, my housing cost, electricity, insurance, everyhing! Every bulb in my house is a spiral and I just don't see where I can cut back any more. Another rate hike is probably going to be the straw that breaks my back. I am begging you please don't raise the cost of my electricity again. 1 Jean Jewell From: Sent: To: Subject: coolredstar~clear. net Friday, June 03, 2011 10:28 AM Jean Jewell; Beverly Barker; Gene Fadness PUC Comment Form ;¡t-ê-If-OK A Comment from Debra Pence follows: Case Number: Idaho Power Requests 9.9% Rate Increase Name.: Debra Pence Address: 1020 Tammy City: Meridian State: ID Zip: 83646 Daytime Telephone: 888- 2750 Contact E-Mail: coolredstar~clear.net Name of Utility Company: Idaho Power Acknowledge: acknowledge Please describe your comment briefly: The Idaho Statesman reported today (6-3-11) that Idaho Power is requesting a 9.9% increase in power rates. How can they ask us to give more? Mr. Said, Vice President for Regulatory Affairs of Idaho Power said that Idaho Power needs to i recover costs of doing business i . Well, at my school, no one is helping us i recover costs of doing business'. We let people go, take furlough days, stop ordering supplies, and have bake sales. At home, we i re cutting, cutting, cutting. What is Idaho Power doing to make ends meet wi thin the company before asking us to pay more? Have them look under the couch cushions around the office before they raise our rates. I don i t think I can pay more and more and more. This concerns me as an Idaho Power user. I feel like our rates just keep getting higher and as a retired person on a limited income makes this very difficult. Maybe they are paying their employees too much, we know of 3 in our rural community who have retired at 50 or less and have never had to work a day since, plus still receiving some benefits, such as insurance. I wonder what the big boys must be making. I would hope that you would do some investigating before we as citizens have to cough up more money in these troubled times.
