Idaho power has requested a rate increase to pay for the employee' s defined bennefi t
retirement plan. I have given this a lot of thought and feel this should be denied as Id.
power pays 100 percent of this retirement plan and has a very nice 401 type retirement plan
that matches .67 cents for each dollar the employee contributes up to 5000 dollars. Assuming
the employee contributes 5000 and the intrest rate is 3.5% the value of this annuity would be
at least 400,000 and significantly more if invested in the stock market as the rate of return
would be larger over time.
I suggest denying this request and allow the employee to contribute money to their definned
benni fi t plan if the Id. Power needs to increase their contribution to maintain a stable
retirement plan. Ci tizens of Id. should not be resposible for funding this rate increase to
support a retirement plan that cannot be maintained without subtantial contributionsl rate
payers over the long haul. The 401 type plan is very nice and far exceeds what most workers
have in Idaho.
Please deny this rate increase and similar requests by other utilli ties.
