Please describe your comment briefly:
I object to approval of this project as a customer, as a stockholder and a federal taxpayer.
Solar projects like this will only raise rates unnecessarily, but will reduce company
earnings, and must be subsidized by the federal government at a time of unsustainable budgetdeficits.
Solar projects by definition produce 0 electricity half of the time. That means that
ratepayers will have to pay for a 100% backup. These days that means gas turbine generators.
Since the sun goes down every day, the generator back up will necessarily need to run all the
time to insure that electricity is available when needed by customers. Gas turbine generators
are reliable, and efficient electricity generators, but when they must be cycled up and down
lose much of their efficiency. Some studies have shown that the reduced efficiency of gas
turbines run in back up mode for wind and solar projects actually burn more natural gas than
they would if operated at full capci ty with no i alternate energy i .
I am a Chemical Engineer and an expert in energy and energy efficiency. This project is bad
in almost every way, except as a way to put citizens money in the pockets of the project
developers.
