Please describe your comment briefly:
I would like to state for the record that I believe that the current bill structuring for
Idaho Power is neither fair nor effective for all customers. We built a new home in April of
2009 and installed the most energy efficient products that we were able to purchase, all of
which either met or exceeded the criteria for an energy star rating on the new home. Since
moving into our new home we have had exorbitant electric bills, that defy all reason. We have
contacted Idaho power about our concerns and they have sent employeees to check the meter,
which was working effectively, and sent out a specialist to help identify where we could save
enegy, which turned out there was little to nothing else we could do. What we found was that
in spite of the fact that the more energy you use the cheaper it is to deliver, Idaho power
charges a steep punitive graduated rate structure for their clients, many of whom like us,
are unable to do anything to reduce their current energy use, outside of not using any energy
at all. And then to add surcharges on top of that is in my opinion, unconscionable. We can
barely afford our monthly bill the way it is.
For the record our bill for last month was $1568.43 double the previous month's bill. And
family and friends all report that their bills doubled as well in August.
Most people have become very energy concious and try to conserve as much as they are able to,
with little to no effect on their power bills. So could you please explain to me how this
punitive means of structuring rates is either equitable or effective for most people? And
most. of all how is it saving energy? And seriously, how does the cost of the energy
efficiency surcharge to the customer help save us money? I have not seen a decline in my bill
for two years, only increases.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my concerns.
Sincerely,
Carmen Van Lith
