These tiered rates unfairly punish those of us who built large houses on large lots long before there was a shortage of inexpensive electricity. Your explanation that large users cause the company to seek expensive supply and thus raise the cost for everyone seems to ignore the fact that growth (the expanding number of customers) has that same effect, and probably to a much larger degree. A more fair way to implement tiered rates would havé been to provide grandfather rights to existing/long-time customers, so that growth would pay for itself. The size of my house, and the fact that it requires two HVAC systems, and the size of my lot, which requires irrigation are by far the largest drivers of my energy usage. While I realize I consume a lot of energy, there i s not much I can do about it now - a few degrees on the thermostat aren't going to do much. When this comes up for review again, please roll back the decision for long-time customers, so we get the deal we signed up for.
