IDAHO POWER ASKS IPUC FOR AUTHORITY TO INCLUDE NEW POWER PLANT IN RATES
BOISE, Idao, March 7, 2008 - Idao Power today fied an application with the Idaho Public Utities
CommsSion (!UC) for autoriation to place the conson costs of a 170 megawatt (M natu gas-fi
power plant ino the electrcity rates paid by Idao customers. The plant wil be avaiable to sere Idao Power
~stomers in time for th suer's pea irgation and ai conditionig seaon.
Idao Power is askig the IPUC for a 1.4 perent increae in rates for al Idao customers by June 1. As
proposed, the increae would be applied unormy to al customer classes and spec contrt customer and would
produce an estimted $9 millon in addtiona revenue per yea. For a tyica reside customer using 1,050
kiowatt-hours per month the increae represents an addtiona $1.04 per month durg June, July and Augu and
87 cents durg non-suer month.
The new plant includes a $64 milion expanion to the Evader Andrews Power Complex near Moun
Home, Idao. Buit by Siemen-Westighouse, Idao Power acquies possession of the plat following completon
of pre-acceptace testing, beig conducted now. Idao Power expecs to tae ownerhip late ths month.
The plant produced power for more th four hours under test conditions Feb. 22 and ha undergone numerus
tests since tht time. It is the four natual gas-fied peag resource buit for Idao Power and wi augmen the
two 45-MW Danki Power Plant unts, which are par of the Evander Andrews Power Complex. Idao Power also
own and operates the 160 MW Benett Mounta plant in Mounta Home.
Last yea Idao Power was able to supply less th 40 percent of its electrcity from its hydroelectrc syst
due to drought conditions. Idao Power counts on its natu gas-fied plants to meet pea demds durg short
perods of tie when electrcal loads exce base load genertion capacities. Pea demd perod tyicay occur
durg hot sumer aferoons when electrcal supplies are short and costs for purchases from the wholesale
electrcity maket are the highest.
The Evander Andrews Power Complex is naed afer the late Master Sergeant Evander Andrews, the fit
milita cauaty of Amerca's war on terorism. Andrews was stationed at Mounta Home Ai Force Base.
The proposal is subject to public review and approval by the IPUC. A copy of the application is avable at the
