Washington PO Box 83720 Boise, ID 83720-0074 TRANSMISSION BY fAX 208/334-3762 Greetings: I am responding to a recent newspaper article (Twin Falls, Idaho The Times-News, December 2, 2006). The article invites citizens to comment relative to Idaho Power Co. proposed sales agreement with Magic Wind of Buhl, Idaho. For the record, I am in support of the proposed transaction. For the following reasons, Idaho s PUC should make every effort to support such a proposal: The proposal would greatly facilitate "high-lift" farmers such as Magic Waters to lessen their traditional means of electrical transmission and delivery. Wind farms, such as proposed by Magic Wind, leaves a relatively small environmental footprint," impacting to the minimum extent possible the affected and surrounding environment. This type of project encourages farmers and ranchers to enjoy entrepreneurial incentives to further enhance the value of their operations. This type of project enh~nces the local tax base, thus providing a means to reduce local property taxes. As the technology and availability of wind farms evolve, the potentii31 of reducing the electrical rates to local businesses and homeowners cannot be ignored. This technology may hold the potential for area farmers to save their farms, thus providing an additional "crop" for the public good. Furthermore, I have read of the critics claims' of potential inconsistencies relative to wind availability. I see no difference between wind and water availability (re: reclamation projects). They are both a function of natural forces, and one cannot infer that one natural force is any more consistent or inconsistent (i.e., available) than another. Besides, the evolution of the wind turbine s technology begs an opportunity to provide its worthiness to society. Thank you for any consideration you may give my correspondence. Not far from my home I see seven wind turbines standing across the Snake River. Most of the time they are being propelled. They do not pollute the air we breathe, animals habi tate safely below them, and, if water is available, farming can be continued around them. Wind power is a renewable source of energy and with it in progress, we in Idaho can rest in knowing generations to come will have an opportunitiy to live more healthily. Surely, a combination of alternative renewable energy sources is the answer for Idaho. Let's help ' man ' harness the wind! This kind of power does nothing to the precious air that we breathe, is not harmful to the animals that graze under it, and does not harm the earth with global warming. We must wake up and think of what we are leaving for our children, grandchildren, and all future generations of the world.
