The Jerome-based Citizens Protecting Resources says the plan doesn t consider ways to reduce
energy use.
I haven t seen the Commission s Findings but I'd bet there isn t a section stating that their approval of
IP's plan will increase the mercury in our waters, particulates in our air and a denigration of our health
over the next 20 years. Something like that would approach Public Interest concerns and that is as taboo
in Idaho as Devil Worship. Either way, IP wins and Idaho loses. Why?
If the people conserve, take baby steps with solar, wind, etc., more power is available to IP to sell at a
greater profit outside of its realm which goes into the stockholder s pockets. Again, profit is the motive
the means, the end all, not the natural resources which are the true source of the profit.

Idaho Power s plan to supply energy approved
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has accepted Idaho Power Company s plan that
outlines how the company will produce and distribute energy for the next 20 years.
Some conservation groups oppose the plan because they say it puts too much emphasis on coal and not
enough on wind power.
The company plans to increase its energy production by 1 300 megawatts over the next20 years by
using a combination of coal, nuclear power, wind and geothermal resources.

Of that amount, 500 megawatts will come from coal.
The Jerome-based Citizens Protecting Resources says the plan doesn t consider ways to reduce energy
use.
Idaho Power officials say they expect their customer base to grow from 455 000 to 688 000 during the
next 20 years.
